How Is the Procedure Performed?
Chin liposuction is a relatively short and simple procedure that is usually performed outside of a full operating room setting.
Anaesthesia
The procedure is most commonly carried out under local anesthesia, or in combination with mild sedation for your greater comfort. In some cases, particularly when combined with other procedures, general anesthesia may be used.
The Incisions
The surgeon makes three very small incisions, only 1–2 millimetres each. One incision is placed under the chin and two more at the angles of the lower jaw. These incisions are so small that after healing they are almost invisible.
Fat Aspiration
Through these incisions, a very fine cannula connected to a suction device is inserted. The surgeon carefully moves the cannula to break up and aspirate the excess fat, sculpting the contour of the jawline and neck. Typically, about 5–20 cc of fat is removed.
Modern Techniques
There are advanced techniques such as:
- VASER liposuction: Uses ultrasound to liquefy the fat before aspiration, reducing tissue trauma.
- FaceTite: Performed with the help of a special device (FaceTite) equipped with advanced radiofrequency (RF) technology.
These techniques offer faster recovery, fewer bruises, and better skin tightening.
The procedure usually takes 30–60 minutes, depending on the amount of fat that needs to be removed.
