Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries on the face. It is addressed to patients with excess skin on the upper eyelid as well as to patients with "bags" under the eyes.

The Operation
Upper eyelid surgery involves the removal of excess skin on the upper eyelid as well as a small amount of fat located in the inner eyelid.
On the other hand, lower eyelid surgery involves the removal of excess skin on the lower eyelid and the removal or more common redistribution of fat in the area.

The duration of eyelid surgery is about one hour for the upper eyelids and one and a half hours for the lower eyelids.
If it is an upper eyelid surgery, it can be safely performed with local anesthesia, while if it includes the lower eyelids, it is preferred that the operation will be performed in the clinic under local anesthesia in combination with intoxication.
The suturing of the incisions includes an intradermal suture, i.e. a suture with the optimal aesthetic result and the sutures are removed in 5 days. Special adhesive tapes are placed over the sutures to protect the incisions.

Complications of Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is a routine operation with excellent results.
However, as with any surgery, there are some possible complications such as the following:
Ectropion: This is a very rare complication and occurs when the lower eyelid is pulled down so that it does not touch the eyeball. It is observed postoperatively when the eyelid is very loose or appears to be tense. Special care is taken preoperatively with detailed planning to avoid this complication.
Asymmetry: During eyelid surgery the same technique is applied to both eyelids. A slight asymmetry between the two sides can be observed.
Hypertrophic scars: Wound healing varies from patient to patient. However, the eyelids in most cases are excellent, leaving an almost invisible scar.
Injury to the eye: This is an extremely rare complication as the eyeball is protected throughout the operation.
Consequence: This is a disorder in the drainage of tears resulting in tearing after surgery. It is usually transient and is due to injury to the tear duct.
The relaxation of the eyebrows and their drooping, is a completely different case from the drooping eyelids. For the correct diagnosis, you should consult a specialized doctor, who will recommend the appropriate treatment.
