Right to Parenthood

The right to parental happiness is one of the main demands of the LGBTQ + community.

The diversity of modern couples and their need to have biological children is the answer to the question of whether restrictions should be placed on the desire of same-sex couples who wish to have a family.

The need to have children in same-sex couples is a completely conscious decision and certainly not the result of some "misfortune".

Although Greek legislation is generally considered modern in the field of recognition of same-sex couples, the latter do not have the possibility of joint access to the methods of Medical Assisted Reproduction even when there are health reasons.

In practice, however, the law cannot preclude a same-sex couple from seeking Medically Assisted Reproductive Support if one partner appears to be the only unmarried woman.

Surrogacy is a solution that gives many couples the opportunity to start a family and hug a child.

At the same time, it offers same-sex couples the joy of having children with a biological relationship with one of the two parents.

Surrogate mother

The surrogate mother is pregnant with the embryo intended for the couple who can not have children.

The embryo is created and developed with the help of IVF, with eggs and sperm of the couple or an anonymous donor.

The role of the surrogate mother is important but at the same time procedural.

That is, the mother will conceive the embryo but will not be biologically related to it and in no case does she use her own egg.

The surrogate mother must be healthy and meet certain medical criteria, such as not having performed more than two caesarean section while the completion of the procedure with her is validated by a court decision

Note that international legislation on surrogacy varies as European countries such as Italy, France, Iceland, Sweden and Germany have banned any form of surrogacy.

On the other hand, England, Canada, Ireland, Portugal and South Africa are some of the countries that allow altruistic (without financial compensation) surrogacy, but with some restrictions. In South Africa, for example, altruistic surrogacy is only allowed for heterosexual married couples.

Same-sex couples have difficulty finding a country that will allow them to have children through surrogacy, so many travel to the US and places like Boise, Idaho's idyllic city, to make their dream of becoming a parent come true.
