Hyaluronic acid on the lips is one of the treatments that have no age.

Due to this wide age range of application and different needs, there is a variety of techniques that we can and should apply.

In younger people, the goal is usually to increase the volume in the lips and correct asymmetries. After performing local anesthesia, hyaluronic acid is applied with a needle or non-traumatic cannula.

At older ages, we often aim to restore the lost volume of the lips and at the same time, deal with wrinkles around the mouth such as smoker and puppet wrinkles. And in this case, the application of hyaluronic acid is done with a needle, non-traumatic cannula, or even a combination of them.

The procedure lasts about 15 minutes, while after the end of the treatment, the evaluation of the result is not possible, as some degree of swelling has already started to appear.

Usually, stay in the doctor's office for about 30 minutes, applying ice to the lips to reduce the swelling faster, something that you can continue at home.

The swelling often becomes more intense the next morning, but subsides during the day and disappears completely, with the completion of 48 hours from the application. For anything that has not been described to you and you are worried, contact your doctor immediately.

How long does hyaluronic acid last on the lips?

On the lips, the hyaluronic acid that we usually use is soft to medium in texture and this is because our goal is to give a natural volume without creating puffy, stiff lips.

Side effects

Swelling and bruising that can occur after hyaluronic acid on the lips is something you should be prepared for as it happens very often. The only exception is the new cannula technique that can actually have minimal to no swelling and bruising.

However, when deciding to have an injection treatment, it is important to keep in mind that the possibility of swelling and bruising is impossible to rule out.

Swelling of the lips is reactive in the first 48 hours after treatment. In fact, in the morning when you wake up it becomes more intense and subsides during the day. After this period it subsides significantly and is not an issue.

As for the bruising - bruises, if they occur, the treatment is done with the application of ice and maybe some creams, but it will be something that will be visible for the next 10 days and you can cover it with make-up products.
